About Kybella

Kybella is a minimally-invasive injectable treatment that can address excess fat beneath the chin that may be contributing to the appearance of a “double chin.” Kybella contains deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring bile acid. (1) When administered to submental fat, it undergoes a process called focal adipolysis. Focal adipolysis is a process that specifically targets and eliminates fat cells without harming surrounding tissue. It breaks down the local fat cells in a way that allows your lymphatic system to clear them away naturally. (2) Once your body has cleared them, the area cannot store or accumulate fat, allowing you to enjoy your renewed appearance long-term.

Benefits

Kybella offers several benefits, such as:

  • Non-Surgical Treatment: Kybella is an injectable treatment, bypassing the need for incisions or general anesthesia.
  • Precise Targeting: Dr. Rednam and Dr. Harirchian can target specific regions beneath your chin, allowing you to effectively target the concerns bothering you most.
  • Little-To-No Downtime: You may return to most of your routine shortly after receiving your injections.
  • Lasting Results: The results of Kybella are generally permanent, as once your body eliminates the local fat cells, they cannot return.
  • Quick Administration: Each treatment session lasts approximately 15 to 20 minutes, making it easy for busier patients to fit it into their schedules.
  • Elevated Self-Esteem: Eliminating your stubborn fat may improve your sense of body positivity and lead to a greater overall sense of self-esteem.

Candidates

You may be an ideal candidate for Kybella if you have noticed mild to moderate amounts of fat beneath your chin that is contributing to the appearance of a “double chin,” creating an excessively full or rounded look, or concealing the natural definition of your jawline.

To qualify for Kybella, you should be in good general health and hold realistic expectations regarding your results. If you have recently lost a significant amount of weight, you should be near or at an ideal weight you can maintain long-term. You should also be nicotine-free or willing to quit smoking before the procedure and throughout your recovery.

Personal Consultation

During your personal consultation, either Dr. Harirchian or Dr. Rednam will meet with you individually to discuss each aspect of your treatment. They will ask you about your medical history, including your allergies, medication intake, and any previous treatments you may have had. They will ask you about your aesthetic concerns and desired result to ensure you have realistic expectations. They will also perform a physical evaluation to assess your submental region.

They will then use this information to finalize whether Kybella is right for you and create a personalized treatment plan to help you achieve your goals. They will determine the amount of Kybella to use, as well as the best places to inject. If you have any questions or concerns, you can ask them openly, as we want this appointment to be informative and empowering.

If you are ready to schedule this consultation and take the first step towards diminishing your double chin, please contact us online or call (346) 646-3518. We offer consultations at both our Houston and The Woodlands offices.

Preparation

During your consultation, your doctor will provide you with detailed preparation instructions to help you prepare for your Kybella treatment. Because this treatment is an injection, your instructions will be fairly straightforward, but we ask that you follow each one to optimize your results and treatment.

We ask that you stay hydrated and maintain a balanced and nutritious diet. If needed, you may be asked to refrain from taking any blood-thinning medications or supplements. You will also need to abstain from consuming any alcohol or nicotine in the days before your treatment, as these substances can increase your risk of bleeding, swelling, and bruising.

Procedure

When you arrive for your appointment, your doctor will lead you to your designated treatment room. They will cleanse the skin beneath your chin before applying or administering a topical or local anesthetic. They will then use a skin-safe marker to carefully mark out each injection site. Your doctor will then administer the Kybella formula into these specific areas.

Kybella is a very quick treatment to administer, with most treatment sessions lasting approximately 15 to 20 minutes. However, most patients will need to undergo multiple treatment sessions spaced out regularly over the course of four to six weeks to achieve their desired results.

Recovery

After your injections, you may return to routine as normal, although some patients choose to take some time away to rest. It is common to experience some initial swelling, redness, or mild discomfort. These effects are temporary and will dissipate within several days to a week, but you may also manage them by using certain over-the-counter medications and a cold compress to the treated areas intermittently for the first 24 to 48 hours of your recovery. The cold temperatures will help reduce any swelling and discomfort. You will also need to reduce engaging in any exercise or physically demanding tasks, as they may increase blood flow to the treated areas and worsen your side effects.

Your doctor will provide you with a detailed set of written instructions to help guide you through your recovery. If any questions or concerns arise, we encourage you to contact us.

Results

The results of Kybella will develop gradually, with most patients needing several sessions to see their ideal sculpt. After your body has cleared away the fat cells, you will be able to enjoy a more pronounced chin, smoother skin, a more slender neck, and a more chiseled jawline. Your results will last for several years, as the deoxycholic acid used in the Kybella formula permanently destroys fat cells. However, you must maintain a stable weight, as fluctuations may alter your long-term appearance and cause the untreated fat cells to swell.

Cost of Kybella in Houston, Texas

The cost of your Kybella will vary depending on certain factors of your treatment plan, including the number of treatment sessions you undergo, how many vials of Kybella you receive, and whether you undergo any additional treatments.

The best way to determine the pricing of your treatment is by attending a consultation. Once Dr. Harirchian and Dr. Rednam have helped you establish a treatment plan, they will be able to provide you with a comprehensive cost estimate.

FAQ

Can Kybella be used in other areas of the body?

No, Kybella is only approved to be used beneath the chin. If you are interested in reducing fat in other regions, your doctor can discuss integrating additional treatments into your treatment plan.

Can Kybella injections tighten my skin?

Kybella is not a skin-tightening treatment and is only to be used to reduce submental fat. While some patients do experience mild tightening as a secondary result of their treatment, this effect is a result of local collagen production, not their injections. If you are interested in addressing loose or hanging skin beneath your chin, we recommend discussing this at your consultation so your doctor can provide you with suitable recommendations.

How many treatment sessions will I need to attend?

The number of treatment sessions you undergo will vary depending on your goals and the amount of fat found beneath your chin. During your consultation, your doctor can assess your submental area and discuss what you can expect from your treatment plan.

How long will the results of Kybella last?

The results of Kybella are generally permanent, as the deoxycholic acid breaks down the fat cells found in the area. However, you will need to maintain a stable weight to preserve these effects long-term and prevent the surrounding, untreated fat cells from swelling.

Are there any side effects associated with Kybella?

The most common side effects associated with Kybella include swelling, bruising, redness, numbness, and mild discomfort surrounding the injection sites. These side effects are usually temporary and often subside within several days to one week.
